Olympic Torch Lights up Lunch

At our regular lunchtime meeting on Tuesday 21 August, the guest speaker was Denis Broderick, a friend of President John.  Denis's claim to fame was that he was a local man who carried the Olympic torch for a part of it's journey round Northern Ireland.  Wearing the official white suit and carrying the torch, Denis explained how he had been nominated and the process leading up to his big day.  He has raised over £65,000 personally for a number of charities through marathon bikes rides in many parts of the world and so was worthy of his selection.  On 4th June Dennis carried the flame over Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, which has since become an iconic image viewed by people worldwide. Denis spoke of his delight and honour in having had the chance to be part of sporting history.

A second visitor was Rotarian Alistair Laird's brother Kenneth from Canada who told us about his life there in return for winning the bottle of wine!
