Cookstown Rotary Club and Tescos Christmas Tree

with a difference proves a real success

While most Christmas trees are purely decorative, the tree in the Tescos store in Cookstown this Christmas was a tree with a difference.  Cookstown Rotary Club teamed up with the Tesco store in Cookstown to launch a Tree of Memory and Hope which they hoped would both capture the essence of the Christmas spirit and also provide a simple yet poignant way of remembering loved ones amid the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season.

Throughout December the tree was placed at the entrance of the Tescos store in Cookstown and local people had the opportunity to write a personal message of remembrance on a ribbon to be placed on the tree in a colourful garland.  While there was no charge, donations were welcome, and Cookstown Rotary Club and Tescos are delighted to announce that a total of £6,000 was raised to help the following charities: The Alzheimer's Society (Tesco's nominated Charity of the year); St Vincent De Paul (Cookstown Branch), Kilronan Special School Magherafelt, The Salvation Army & Rotary Charities such as Shelter Box and Polio Plus.
